IGLTA announces new board members
Please join us in welcoming the new appointees to the IGLTA board of directors. They will begin their two-year terms at the end of the board meeting just prior to the 8-10 May Annual Global Convention in Madrid. Michael McDowell, Vice President for Arts & Culture and Affinity Markets for the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board; Andy Mosetti, founder of travel agency NEXTSKY (Switzerland) Ltd; and Chris Stanley, Corporate and Incentive Sales Account Director for Silversea Cruises were appointed to the IGLTA board for the first time. Marta Dalla Chiesa, co-owner/Managing Director of Brazil Ecojourneys, and Gail Swift, Director of Association Sales for Hilton Worldwide, were re-appointed for additional two-year terms. They will join Tanya Churchmuch, Rika Jean-Francois, Tom Jenkins, Juan Julia, Dan Melesurgo, and Ed Salvato on the 2014-2015 board.

    Federal judge: Gay marriages can begin in Illinois' Cook County; no need to wait until June

    Jubilant same-sex couples began lining up for marriage licenses in Chicago after a federal judge ruled there was no reason for residents of Illinois' largest county to wait until the state's new gay marriage law takes effect, a decision some hope will prompt county clerks statewide to begin issuing the documents.

    Poll: Irish voters support same-sex marriage

    Only about 1 in 5 Irish voters oppose legalizing same-sex marriage in the Republic of Ireland, a poll released recently indicated. The poll, done for the public broadcaster RTE and the Sunday Business Post, found that 76 percent of respondents support same-sex marriage, 19 percent are opposed and 5 percent undecided, The Guardian reported.

    In an increasingly noisy and crowded digital landscape, marketers have to use visuals to stand out from the immense competition. Blogs were the first form of networking online where people/companies/brands would post content in order to be found. The world then moved onto Facebook, where our content became shorter. Then microblogs like Twitter came along, and our content became even shorter to 140 characters. Now we are skipping text altogether with the rise of visual social networks like Instagram and Pinterest, which allow marketers to show their creative prowess.

    It's not all negative: Why you should respond to good and bad reviews
    If you did a Web search for responding to negative reviews on TripAdvisor, you would get pages and pages of results with articles talking about how important it is. While Kevin Boudreaux agree with these articles, just responding to only negative reviews should only be one part of your TripAdvisor strategy.
