The IGLTA stand in the Gay Pavilion at the ITB Berlin trade fair (7-11 March) will again be the cornerstone of LGBT networking. Hosting more than two dozen booth share and brochure distribution partners, it's a one-stop shopping destination for the latest information on LGBT offers worldwide. ITB Berlin: Gay and lesbian travel section is booming

ITB Berlin reports growing interest in the gay and lesbian Travel section. Thus at this year's event more than a dozen exhibitors will be presenting the latest trends and products in this market on a record display area covering 200 square meters in Hall 2.1a. In 2012, in addition to the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association, which with its rainbow-colored columns will form the central part of the pavilion, there also will be numerous new exhibitors at the show. Russian city passes bill effectively banning gay pride parades; activists call for tourism boycott

St. Petersburg, Russia's anti-gay propaganda bill has passed its third and final reading in the city legislature and now heads to Gov. Georgiy Poltavchenko, who has 14 days to sign the bill into effect, or send it back to be "reworked." Under the bill, individuals could be fined up to $16,000 and legal entities would have to pay $160,000 for promoting "homosexuality, pedophilia, or transgenderism to minors," and nearly all public pro-LGBT events likely would have to be curtailed or canceled to avoid the penalty. North Dakota cities angling for gay tourism boost

The Visitor's Bureau in the Fargo-Moorhead area wants more gay travelers in town. The bureau is hoping to promote the two cities as a gay- and lesbian-friendly destination, according to the Dickenson Press. Though the plan is still in its early stages, the bureau hopes to tap into the $70 billion market generated by the gay community. More

Global aviation accident rate hit new low in 2011

The International Air Transport Association said that the 2011 accident rate for Western-built jets was the lowest in aviation history, surpassing the previous mark set in 2010. The 2011 global accident rate (measured in hull losses per million flights of Western-built jets) was 0.37, the equivalent of one accident every 2.7 million flights. More
