Gay Days: A different side of Disney

The Gay Days event was originally spearheaded by The Center, the LGBT community center in Orlando. The events now attract nearly 150,000 visitors every year and add more than $100 million to the local economy, according to the Gay Days website.

    Gay Days expected to bring $18 million to Fort Lauderdale
    South Florida Business Journal
    Fort Lauderdale's inaugural weeklong Gay Days is expected to bring 15,000 visitors and $18 million to the area. The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau will host the Gay Day Expo and other citywide events from Nov. 25-Dec. 1 from the W Fort Lauderdale hotel.

    Inmarsat to launch pan-European in-flight broadband

    More airline passengers will be able to tap broadband in the sky to watch live video or stream music on European flights thanks to a new system set up by U.K. satellite communications company Inmarsat PLC. British Airways, a unit of International Consolidated Airlines Group, is in talks to become the launch customer for the system, which combines satellite and air-to-ground 4G connectivity, and that Inmarsat hopes will make in-flight broadband more common in Europe.

    Gay marriages begin in Wisconsin after judge strikes down ban

    Same-sex couples began getting married in Wisconsin on Friday shortly after a federal judge struck down the state's gay marriage ban and despite confusion over the effect of the ruling. Clerks in Madison and Milwaukee began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples shortly after 5 p.m. Friday, a little over an hour after the judge released her ruling. Judges were on hand at both courthouses to perform ceremonies.

    Marriott International is going after the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community with a new social media and marketing campaign, joining a number of major hotel chains aggressively trying to lure the lucrative clientele.

    Birmingham Airport aiming to compete with London

    At 6 a.m. on May 27, a Boeing 757 bound for the holiday island of Mallorca departed from the new extended runway at Birmingham Airport in the United Kingdom, marking a new era for the airport. With a population of over 1 million, Birmingham is Britain's second-largest city — behind London, which is only 115 miles away. The Birmingham Airport has grown across the board in terms of passengers, airlines and number of routes served over the past five years and has made no secret about its ambitions to attract business from the struggling London airports.
