Taiwan to get its 1st International Queer Film Festival
Taiwan is getting ready to host its first International Queer Film Festival which organizers say is an endeavor to showcase LGBT themes to the Taiwanese people as well as highlight awareness about issues the community faces. "We hope that the Queer Festival will not only play an anchor role in showing to the Taiwanese people the diversity of the LGBT community but, at the same time, the similarity to everyone else in this country," says Festival Director Jay Lin.

Croatia's government has received a controversial proposal that says a secluded, barren island of rock known as the Naked Island would be the perfect place to put gay tourists. Goli Otok was used as a penal colony in Communist times and the pitch to transform it into a gay tourism hub is based on its isolated location in the northern Adriatic Sea.

Bangladesh set to veto UN rights for lesbian and gay people
Bangladesh says it will veto the International Conference on Population and Development proposal to provide rights for lesbian and gay people. "It goes against our values. Like many other countries including those Muslims and Christian, we opposed it," Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the U.N. Abdul Momen told the Dhaka Tribune.

Activists press Kazakh leaders to adopt anti-gay 'propaganda' laws

Members of the Bolashak national movement and social activists in Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest city, have combined their efforts to help staunch the spread of gay propaganda as well as ban same-sex couples from adoption, work in the public sector or service in the Kazakh army. Dauren Babamuratov, the public face of the anti-gay backlash, has warned of growing "pressure" from LGBT groups over the last several years, although he declined to elaborate specifically what those pressures were or how his proposals would address such things.
