With profound sadness, IoPP shares news of the passing of Walter Soroka, a packaging industry icon and the founder of IoPP’s Fundamentals of Packaging Technology program. Soroka passed away on Saturday, May 11, in Canada. His family said he recently had been in declining health. A scientist by training, Soroka was a well-known consultant in the Canadian packaging industry, advising businesses and also teaching in the U.S., Canada and China. He authored major packaging textbooks, including the first four editions of IoPP’s Fundamentals of Packaging Technology, as well as IoPP’s Illustrated Glossary of Packaging Terminology. He played a central role in developing IoPP’s in-person Fundamentals course, and he was an IoPP Fundamentals instructor for many years. Soroka joined IoPP in 1984 and became a Certified Packaging Professional Lifetime in 2000 and an Honorary Lifetime member and Fellow in 2002. He will be greatly missed!

There are more reasons to use molded fiber packaging now than when it was first introduced over 100 years ago. At the time, it was simply the best method to ensure a product was protected during transit. The same still holds true today, but now companies turn to molded fiber because manufacturing and design methods have improved both its form and function and, perhaps most importantly - molded fiber is the most environmentally sustainable product available. Your customers care about the environment more now than ever before. Molded pulp is better for your package, your supply chain, and our planet.

Many pharmaceutical and device manufacturers know the struggle of printing all the required labeling on small products. It’s the same story for cannabis and infused products. “The big challenge from a design perspective, especially for the pre-rolls or any smaller packaging, is getting all the regulatory copy on the package and still telling your consumer what your product is,” says Karli Warner, Garden Society’s Co-Founder.
