The Hill    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Comprehensive immigration reform could make millions of people suddenly eligible for assistance under President Barack Obama's healthcare law, assuming a final deal paves the way for undocumented immigrants to receive papers. Illegal aliens are now prohibited from purchasing coverage through the Affordable Care Act's insurance exchanges, which will launch next year. More

Poll finds bipartisan support for exchanges
The Hill    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
A strong majority — 55 percent — said creating an exchange should be the top healthcare priority for their governors and state legislatures in 2013. Another 31 percent said it's important, if not a top priority. A meager 5 percent said it should not be done — a stark contrast to the Republican governors who are almost unanimously opposed to building exchanges. More

The Associated Press via WSLS-TV    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article

Rescue Mission of Trenton working to keep New Jersey homeless warm
The Times of Trenton    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
As temperatures have dropped into the teens and single digits, the Rescue Mission of Trenton has been working to provide winter coats and warm clothing, and a warm place to sleep, to the New Jersey area's homeless community. Barrett Young, the shelter's director of operations, said the shelter has been at capacity, with more than 200 people, for the last few nights. Even if the shelter runs out of cots, the organization would rather provide someone with a chair to sleep on inside rather than send the person back out on the street to endure dangerously low temperatures. In the wake of the Supreme Court's ruling to uphold the Affordable Care Act, approximately 30 million uninsured Americans under age 65 stand to gain coverage under the law.
