The nation's largest primary care doctor group supports Medicare and Medicaid expansions that include a "buy-in" for those looking to gain health coverage under the age of 65.
The American College of Physicians, which has more than 150,000 member physicians, is a key voice to expanding coverage given other national doctor groups like the American Medical Association have been less supportive of recent legislation introduced by Democrats to expand the government's role in achieving universal health coverage for all Americans. ACP's membership is largely primary care doctors including 154,000 internal medicine physicians, "related sub-specialists, and medical students," the group said.

Wisconsin is the only state in the country that partially expanded eligibility for Medicaid but didn't take the additional federal dollars available through the Affordable Care Act to cover most of the cost.
Gov. Tony Evers' proposed budget wants to change that. His office released details of his healthcare plan Thursday ahead of the formal announcement in the evening.
The governor has proposed covering adults in BadgerCare Plus, the state's largest Medicaid program, up to the threshold that would enable Wisconsin to receive the additional federal dollars available through the Affordable Care Act.

The Georgia Senate approved legislation Tuesday to let Gov. Brian Kemp seek healthcare waivers from the federal government.

The Idaho Legislature's joint budget committee unanimously approved a $381 million, 15.6 percent increase in the Division of Medicaid's fiscal 2020 budget Wednesday.
Medicaid expansion accounted for nearly 52 percent of that, or $197.3 million. Federal funding, however, will cover almost that entire amount; the general fund tab for Medicaid expansion next year is just $9.3 million, and that's offset entirely by savings in other agency budgets.

Draft legislation involving voter-approved Medicaid expansion in Idaho would require recipients to meet similar work or employment training as the state requires in its food assistance program.
Documents obtained by The Associated Press show Republican Rep. Bryan Zollinger is seeking co-sponsors for the legislation. Zollinger on Wednesday said whether the legislation gets introduced depends on if a group of lawmakers meeting informally can reach an agreement involving Medicaid expansion.

Tennessee Republican lawmakers who have long balked at taking millions in federal dollars to expand Medicaid advanced a plan Wednesday that would overhaul how the state provides healthcare to its lower-income and disabled residents.
GOP state lawmakers are moving forward on a proposal calling on the federal government to send Tennessee a fixed amount of money each year in the form of block grants. The bill still faces several key hurdles, but early GOP endorsements from top legislative leaders have signaled the legislation could reach the governor’s desk.
