Democrats seek Medicaid payment bump
Two senior Senate Democrats introduced a bill Thursday that would boost payments to Medicaid doctors to equal those paid to Medicare doctors. Sens. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) are hoping to extend a provision of Obamacare that expired last year that ensures equal payments to all providers.
Florida could become 2nd-largest state to expand Medicaid
Florida lawmakers are moving forward with a closely watched proposal that could expand Medicaid for 1 million people. The GOP-controlled Florida Senate unanimously approved a bill on Tuesday that would accept federal dollars under Obamacare to expand eligibility for Medicaid.

Florida's small-business marketplace is in for major changes under the Senate's Medicaid expansion proposal. After a slow start getting up and running, Florida Health Choices could see its customer base grow exponentially under the Senate's plan. Last week, Senate leaders opened the door to using federal funds to support more than 800,000 uninsured Floridians. Lawmakers in the chamber now have a plan, but it's not quite what some proponents of a Medicaid expansion expected.
Utah House panel votes down governor's Medicaid plan

Lawmakers in Utah's House of Representatives rejected Governor Gary Herbert's Medicaid plan and instead pushed forward their own alternative proposal to help some of the state's poor get health insurance. Soon after a House business and labor committee voted against the Republican governor's proposal, they turned their attention to an alternative plan from House GOP lawmakers.

Montana House officially kills governor's Medicaid expansion bill
The Montana House on Tuesday officially killed Gov. Steve Bullock's Medicaid expansion proposal, refusing on a party-line vote to overturn a committee report to reject it. All 59 House Republicans voted to adopt the House Human Services Committee's do-not-pass recommendation on House Bill 249; all 41 Democrats voted against it.

Missouri governor outlines Medicaid plan, endorses work requirement

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon on Wednesday said he was willing to work with Republicans on a plan to expand the state's Medicaid program and even offered endorsements for conservative ideas that have drawn reproach from some health advocates.
Nebraska panel advances Medicaid 'redesign' measure

A new effort to expand Medicaid coverage in Nebraska is headed to a full debate in the legislature. The Health and Human Services Committee voted on Tuesday to advance the Medicaid Redesign Act to the floor. The lead sponsor, Sen. Kathy Campbell of Lincoln, Nebraska, has said this year's version would help the state uncover more efficient ways to provide healthcare coverage.
Pennsylvania Medicaid expansion switch to be done by September

The switch from former Gov. Tom Corbett's "Healthy Pennsylvania" program to the traditional Medicaid expansion endorsed by Gov. Tom Wolf is expected to be completed by the end of September, said Ted Dallas, acting secretary of the state Department of Human Services. But the transition is a "couple-of-phase process" that will blend the three parts of the former governor's program into the single Medicaid expansion plan adopted in more than 20 other states, Dallas said. The first phase is expected to be finished by April 30.
New Jersey touts benefits of Medicaid expansion at town hall

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is touting the budgetary benefits of Medicaid expansion under President Barack Obama's healthcare overhaul. The potential Republican presidential contender, who has been a vocal critic of Obama's signature healthcare program, said Tuesday during a town hall event that Medicaid expansion has helped save New Jersey taxpayers significant money and benefited low-income residents as well as the state's bottom line.
Alabama's Medicaid reform takes major step next month
Six of the organizations vying to take over Medicaid will undertake care for 220,000 of its sickest patients on April 1, in the first test of a program officials hope could save millions of dollars. Six probationary regional care organizations are participating in an expansion of the Health Home program. Medicaid patients with 12 costly and chronic health conditions — including asthma, diabetes, HIV, cancer, mental illness, sickle cell disease and heart disease — will receive added support and coordination through primary care physicians and the regional care organizations.
