Nebraska rejects compromise effort to expand Medicaid

Nebraska legislators spent the past year crafting a conservative version of Obamacare's Medicaid expansion that they hoped would gain support in a pretty red state. But after a failed vote in the state legislature, the Medicaid expansion is officially dead in Nebraska this year.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius will highlight local Obamacare enrollment efforts in Louisiana, a deep red state with major 2014 midterm implications. Medicaid enrollments soar in Nevada

Homeless are hesitant to use Medi-Cal

The expansion of Medi-Cal under the Affordable Care Act means that the homeless have more health care options this year than ever before. Yet the handful of free homeless medical clinics in Modesto continue to see lines of patients eager to use their services. Some homeless people have trouble understanding the Medi-Cal enrollment process or providing the needed paperwork. Others would just rather be around other homeless people. Because of their hard life on the streets, they don't always feel comfortable in more traditional settings.

Eligible uninsured Asian-Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders: 8 in 10 could receive health insurance Marketplace tax credit, Medicaid or CHIP

Under the Affordable Care Act, over 1.9 million eligible uninsured Asian-Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders gained access to new options for health care coverage starting Jan. 1. Eight in 10, or 1.6 million, of these eligible uninsured AANHPIs may qualify either for tax credits to purchase coverage in the Health Insurance Marketplace (755,000) or for Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program. If all states were to expand Medicaid, 89 percent, or 9 in 10, of all eligible uninsured AANHPIs would be eligible for Marketplace tax credits, Medicaid or CHIP.
