The federal government on Monday approved 1135 Medicaid waivers for 11 states batting the coronavirus epidemic.
The 1135 waiver allows the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to waive some requirements in Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP that give state Medicaid agencies flexibility and remove red tape that can hamper access to needed services.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services approved an additional 11 state Medicaid waiver requests under Section 1135 of the Social Security Act Tuesday, bringing the total number of approved Section 1135 waivers for states to 13.
According to a release by CMS, the waivers provide relief on a number of fronts, such as prior authorization and provider enrollment requirements, suspending certain nursing home pre-admission reviews, and facilitating reimbursement to providers for care delivered in alternative settings due to facility evacuations. Virginia and North Carolina are among the 11 states whose waivers were approved.

An effort to expand Medicaid in Missouri has acquired enough signatures to put the initiative on the ballot this fall, organizers said Tuesday.
According to the Springfield News-Leader, expansion campaign manager A.J. Bockelman said via email the organization "will be able to submit the required number of valid signatures by the early May deadline," despite the cancellation of campaign events due to the coronavirus.
