Beneficiaries who joined Medicaid as the result of expansion under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act are healthier than people who were part of the program before the law went into effect, according to a study appearing next month in Health Affairs.

'Private option' for Medicaid expansion would cut some benefits

When Arkansas won federal approval to use Medicaid expansion dollars to help low-income people purchase private health insurance, officials on both sides of the aisle applauded the compromise. For supporters of the Affordable Care Act, it meant coverage for the millions of uninsured Americans who live in states that have resisted Medicaid expansion under the ACA. For governors and lawmakers opposed to the law, it was a politically feasible way to accept billions in federal dollars and improve the overall health of their residents without embracing Obamacare.

New Hampshire governor signs Medicaid expansion into law

New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan signed a bill to expand Medicaid programs in the state to cover a group of poor adults eligible for federal subsidies under the healthcare overhaul law. New Hampshire has now followed other states that are injecting hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funds into the economy to expand access to health coverage to about 50,000 people.

Good news for nonexpansion states: 'Doc fix' would delay Obamacare

New legislation providing a patch to Medicare physician payments also includes a one-year delay of scheduled Medicaid cuts to hospitals serving low-income patients. That's especially good news for hospitals in states that haven't expanded Medicaid. Just for starters — the broad purpose of the "doc fix" legislation is to avoid a sharp drop-off in Medicare payments scheduled for March 31.

Poll: Support for Obamacare on the rise VideoBrief

Most voters still view Obamacare negatively, but the margin has narrowed considerably since the beginning of the year, a new poll found. According to a Kaiser Family Foundation survey, 46 percent said they have an unfavorable view of the healthcare law, against 38 percent who have a favorable view.

Extra time granted for some on Obamacare
Politico
The Obama administration will extend Obamacare enrollment past the set deadline for those people who have had difficulty signing up, an official said. The deadline for individuals to start the sign-up process remains March 31, but they will get extra time and assistance to complete it if they've encountered problems. It was not immediately clear how many people this could affect, or how much extra time they would get.
