When the president comes to unveil a national initiative, it usually means attention that's welcomed by governors. In March, President Trump traveled to New Hampshire for his first visit since he won the first-in-the-nation primary two years ago, and he was announcing his plan to combat the opioid crisis, in a state where the rate of opioid-overdose-related deaths exceeds that of most of the rest of the U.S.

Ralph Northam after the legislature failed to agree on a budget during the regular session that ended March 10. Lawmakers must settle on a spending plan by July 1 to avoid a government shutdown.

The state cut Medicaid benefits earlier this year for the Sisters of Mercy, one of the oldest Roman Catholic religious orders in Nebraska, the Omaha World-Herald reported. The nuns are appealing the decision through the state Department of Health and Human Services, which administers the federal health care program to low-income and disabled residents. Some of the 21 affected nuns have received restored benefits.

Roughly 700 to 900 women die in the U.S. every year from mostly preventable complications related to pregnancy, such as blood loss and high blood pressure.
