Alabama legislature gives final approval to Medicaid overhaul

The Alabama legislature has given final approval to an overhaul of the state's Medicaid program. The House approved the bill on a 99-0 vote. The bill now goes to Gov. Robert Bentley for his signature. The legislation would ditch Alabama's fee-for-service model — in which doctors and hospitals get paid for every procedure and office visit — in favor of a network of locally run managed care organizations.

Missouri lawmakers torpedo Medicaid expansion

Republican supermajorities have all but scuttled Medicaid expansion in Missouri, defeating — at least for this year — efforts supported by the Democratic governor to extend basic health coverage to an estimated 250,000 low-income state residents.

Bryant vows to keep Medicaid going in Mississippi

Despite no money and no reauthorization being provided by the 2013 legislature to the Division of Medicaid, Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant did not rule out trying to run the agency by executive order. Bryant said he had an obligation to ensure the thousands of elderly residents on Medicaid in nursing homes are not "thrown out on the street" and said it would be up to someone to go to court to challenge his authority.

Kentucky governor to announce decision on Medicaid expansion
