State survey: 2.9 million Medicaid enrollments still unprocessed

Nearly 3 million Medicaid enrollments that took place under Obamacare have not been processed due to technical or bureaucratic snags, according to a new state survey. Roughly half of the enrollees currently in limbo reside in three states — California, Illinois and North Carolina — according to the analysis by Roll Call.
Missouri's declining Medicaid caseload stands out in national report

Missouri is seeing a bigger decline in its Medicaid rolls than nearly any other state, a ranking that the administration of Gov. Jay Nixon attributes to an improving economy and critics blame on application snafus. A new federal report compares Medicaid enrollment in March to the average for the three-month period of July through September 2013. Missouri's caseload declined 3.9 percent, a drop second only to Wyoming, which declined by 5.6 percent.
Virginia attorney general hires law expert as possible shutdown looms

With no sign of progress in a state budget standoff, Virginia Attorney General Mark R. Herring has hired a constitutional law expert to advise him — the clearest sign yet that the state is barreling toward a government shutdown and uncharted legal territory.
Virginia Republican offers plan to end Medicaid deadlock

A key Republican ally in Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe's bid to expand health coverage for the poor offered a plan to a break a months-long deadlock on the issue. However, he also split with the governor by questioning McAuliffe's power to keep government running without a budget or to expand Medicaid on his own.

Illinois: Cook County releases 1st snapshot of new Medicaid patients

New data offers the first look at the health, habits and demographics of about 100,000 new enrollees in Cook County's expanded Medicaid program under the Affordable Care Act. The picture it paints is bleak. More than half the new patients covered by Cook County's Medicaid expansion program haven't seen a doctor in the past 12 months.
Nevada's health exchange for Medicaid to cost $25 million

The cost to replace the Medicaid section of Nevada's flawed online health insurance exchange will be $25 million, a state official told a legislative committee. The federal government will pay $22.5 million and Nevada will pay the rest, according to Mike Wilden, director of the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services.

Avalere Health is stepping onto the international stage by joining forces with a life sciences consulting firm based in the United Kingdom, the firms announced. The partnership between Avalere and Pope Woodhead & Associates will expand the firms' geographic reach and strengthen their regulatory expertise across borders, according to Avalere CEO Dan Mendelson.
