MHPA celebrates 218th cosponsor on bill to repeal health
insurer fee

Medicaid health plans are pleased that the House bill to repeal the ACA insurer fee has gained 218 cosponsors, enough to secure its passage in the lower chamber. "This largely symbolic, yet important benchmark for repealing the health insurer fee shows the level of bipartisan support in Congress to do away with this misguided policy," Joe Moser, interim executive director of MHPA, said in a statement.

Florida gets OK for Medicaid managed care

Maine Gov. Paul LePage vetoed legislation to expand Maine's Medicaid program, turning the focus back to majority Democrats to try and rally enough Republican votes to override it. In his veto message, LePage wrote Maine has expanded Medicaid before — what he termed a "massive increase in welfare expansion" — and it hasn't worked.

States running out of time on health insurance exchanges

With the deadline for states to implement Affordable Care Act-mandated health insurance exchanges less than four months away, state governments will need to move fast. States are having to reevaluate their existing health insurance infrastructures to meet the act's requirements.
