Alaska becomes 30th state to expand Medicaid

Gov. Bill Walker has announced unilateral plans to expand Medicaid in Alaska, after the state legislature stymied his attempt to pass it during this year's regular session and a special session he subsequently called. Walker appeared with several members of his cabinet as he addressed reporters in at the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium building in Anchorage Thursday morning.

MHPA 2015-2016 Best Practices Compendium call for submissions

We are pleased to announce that we are now accepting submissions from member plans that highlight best practices for Medicaid and CHIP beneficiaries. The Center for Best Practices Advisory Committee will review submissions for potential inclusion in the 2015-2016 MHPA Best Practices Compendium that will be published in November 2015. Additionally, the selected best practices will be honored during the MHPA annual conference luncheon.

While Medicaid debate drags on, Utahns are dying

Utah legislative leaders are working on an agreement to expand Medicaid coverage to tens of thousands of uninsured, low-income Utahns, but even if a deal is struck, it will be far too late for Carol Frisby.

Frisby died Monday from cancer, years after she first showed symptoms but couldn't get the colonoscopy her doctor recommended because the screening wasn't covered by the state's Primary Care Network.
