A University of Michigan study on the connection between expanded Medicaid coverage and mortality rates finds that a sizeable number of people are alive today because of the coverage.
The study on the relationship between Medicaid enrollment and mortality finds a 0.13 percentage point decline in annual mortality, a 9.3% reduction over the sample mean, associated with Medicaid expansion. The effect is driven by a reduction in disease-related deaths and grows over time.

Mississippi Hospital Association has a plan in the works to reform the Medicaid program in the state under the Affordable Care Act and expand health care coverage, Tim Moore, president and CEO of Mississippi Hospital Association, told Starkville Rotarians at their regular meeting Monday. The plan, MississippiCares, seeks to assist non-disabled Mississippians between the ages of 19 and 64 who earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, but don't earn enough to be eligible for Affordable Care Act Marketplace premium tax credits. The chairman of a committee that oversees Missouri's Medicaid program was replaced amid a steep drop in people receiving health care through the program.
Timothy McBride, who was appointed chairman of the MoHealthNet Oversight Committee in 2013 by Democratic then-Gov. Jay Nixon, said he was removed from the panel in May, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. Todd Richardson, director of the state’s MO HealthNet Division, told him he was being replaced.

A group seeking a statewide vote on whether to expand Medicaid to tens of thousands of low-income Oklahomans is organizing volunteers after receiving the date for when they can begin gathering signatures.
The group Oklahomans Decide Healthcare said Wednesday they've been notified by state officials that the 90-day signature gathering window will begin on July 31. Supporters will need to gather nearly 178,000 signatures from registered voters in order to get the question on the ballot.

A drive to expand Medicaid in Florida may be pushed back two years, as organizers try to figure out if they can muster the resources to put the issue on the 2020 ballot.
A spokesman for a political committee backing a proposed constitutional amendment — which comes after years of Florida lawmakers rejecting Medicaid expansion — said a final decision has not been made, but he acknowledged it may be difficult to meet state-imposed deadlines to take the issue to voters in 2020.
