Medicaid applications face delay in health exchanges

According to former Democratic and Republican budget officials, in addition to the Obama administration, while Republicans pulling on the budget thread wouldn't completely unravel plans, a partial government shutdown would leave major parts of President Barack Obama's healthcare law in place and rolling along. Healthcare markets for the uninsured is scheduled to open Oct. 1.

Alternate report lays out public financing path for long-term care

Five Long-Term Care Commissioners recently released an alternate report suggesting Long-Term Support Services could be built into Medicare Part A, while other commissioners have advocated such services be financed through a Medicaid carve out program for private long term care insurance or using savings from a move to site neutral payments for tax rebates.

Officials in six states designing programs to coordinate benefits and services for people who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid are finding one of the most difficult issues to resolve is creating an integrated appeals process. That's the summary finding of a new analysis recently released by the National Senior Citizens Law Center, a not-for-profit senior advocacy and research group.
Special panel to decide on Medicaid in New Hampshire

A special New Hampshire panel that will recommend whether the state should expand its Medicaid program to the poor will start discussing a specific plan. Six of the nine panel members have said the state should accept federal money to provide health insurance to an estimated 49,000 poor adults. The panel has a deadline of Oct. 15 to make recommendations to the legislature.

New Mexico Medicaid agency seeking less money in 2014

New Mexico's largest healthcare program agency is asking for fewer state funds for budget operation in 2014 — the first time in more than a decade where the Human Services Department isn't looking for an increase in Medicaid state aid. Agency officials say a reduction is possible, potentially because of low price inflation and more available federal funding.
2 public companies win in Florida Medicaid

Sunshine State Health Plan, a subsidiary of Centene Corp., won more contracts than any other company in the bidding for a slice of the Florida Medicaid program as it shifts its entire enrollee population into managed-care plans. Sunshine State won the right to compete in nine of 11 districts in the state. Tampa-based WellCare Health Plans scored in seven.
