Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce subcommittee on health have agreed to return to negotiations with Democrats on a bill to continue funding for the popular Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). House Energy and Commerce Chairman Greg Walden (R-Oregon) said Monday he would delay floor consideration of the bill passed by the committee last week "in hopes of reaching a bipartisan agreement on offsets."

New York will have to convene a special legislative session to address a nearly $1 billion shortfall if Congress doesn't quickly renew funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), the state's health department said Wednesday. In a letter to Acting Health and Human Services Secretary Eric Hargan, the state's health commissioner warned about the consequences if CHIP funding is not renewed "in the next few weeks."

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder on Wednesday finally responded to a series of pointed questions from a U.S. senator regarding Medicaid expansion in Michigan, defending the program and saying the senator painted an inaccurate picture of its costs. Snyder wrote a letter to U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin) telling he chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee that he "respectfully disagrees that the approach used in your letter to calculate the growth in expenditures is an accurate portrayal of this successful program."

Pharmacy-benefits manager Express Scripts Holding Co. will buy privately-held eviCore healthcare for $3.6 billion, bolstering its medical benefit management services. St. Louis-based Express Scripts is buying the Bluffton, South Carolina company from investors, including General Atlantic, TA Associates and Ridgemont Equity Partners. The purchase is expected to close in the fourth quarter.
