HHS releases final regulations for ACOs

The Obama administration released its much-awaited final rule for Medicare accountable care organizations, which makes it easier for doctors and hospitals to participate by cutting in half the number of performance measurements, removing the electronic health records requirement and eliminating financial risks for some groups. The association representing Medicaid Health Plans is encouraging the members of the debt law's supercommittee to endorse giving states the option to "passively" enroll dually eligible beneficiaries into a coordinated care program, and also wants members to protect Medicaid and CHIP health plans from the annual health insurance fee set to go into effect in 2014.
