The Obama administration released its much-awaited final rule for Medicare accountable care organizations, which makes it easier for doctors and hospitals to participate by cutting in half the number of performance measurements, removing the electronic health records requirement and eliminating financial risks for some groups. Medicaid plans seek exemption from premium tax; push new payment models for duals
The association representing Medicaid Health Plans is encouraging the members of the debt law's supercommittee to endorse giving states the option to "passively" enroll dually eligible beneficiaries into a coordinated care program, and also wants members to protect Medicaid and CHIP health plans from the annual health insurance fee set to go into effect in 2014. Report: California could realize big savings from expanded telehealth
Numerous California healthcare associations and organizations helped craft and pass the Telehealth Advancement Act of 2011, signed into law Oct. 7 by California governor Jerry Brown. Among the groups leading the charge was the Center for Connected Health Policy, which released a report that highlighted the potential cost savings to be realized from an expansion of telehealth in California.
