Health program for low-income individuals, despite taking criticism, leading in signups
The Associated Press via The Washington Post
Often criticized for byzantine rules and skimpy payments, Medicaid, which has seen its share of criticism under the Obama administration, been has signed up 444,000 people in 10 states since open enrollment began six weeks ago, according to market analysis firm Avalere Health. This has turned into what some may consider an unexpected success story for President Barack Obama and his technologically challenged health overhaul.

As healthy families shift goes, so goes rural expansion of Medi-Cal managed care
California Healthline
Rural Californians already have challenges accessing healthcare and changes to Medi-Cal, the state's Medicaid program, could further complicate matters. Rural areas have fewer physicians and facilities and services are spread out over greater distances than they are in urban and suburban areas. Rural areas also have a disproportionately high number of lower-income, Medi-Cal-eligible residents, which creates a challenging situation for state health officials charged with providing medical coverage in rural settings.
