About 91,000 enroll in Medicaid as result of ACA
'Woodwork' effect

Supporters and opponents of the federal health law still can't decide whether to call it the "woodwork" or "welcome mat" effect — the millions of people currently eligible for Medicaid who are not enrolled and who are expected to sign up as a result of the Affordable Care Act. The Obama administration's first enrollment report recently released shows the phenomenon is real.

CMS expects federal exchange to soon send Medicaid applications to states

CMS Medicaid chief Cindy Mann recently expressed optimism that the federally facilitated exchange would soon be able to send Medicaid applications to states and suggested that the transfer of information from the FFE may not go to all affected Medicaid agencies at the same time, as some state Medicaid programs are ready for the applications and others aren't.

Officials hedge over website deadline

Administration officials were noncommittal when asked by Republican lawmakers whether HealthCare.gov would be functional by its deadline at the end of the month. Witnesses before the House Oversight Committee repeated that their goal is to ensure Obamacare's enrollment site works for most users by Nov. 30. Their implicit suggestion — that the system would not be glitch-free — came with further attempts to lower expectations.

Medicaid expansion: Ohio residents allowed to enroll on Dec. 9

Ohio state officials have given the green light to low-income residents in state who are newly eligible for Medicaid to begin signing up for health coverage on Dec. 9. Ohio Gov. John Kasich's administration got approval from Washington to extend Medicaid eligibility to those with incomes up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level. Coverage officially starts Jan. 1.

Medicaid questions delay some health insurance purchases in Colorado

If you want to find somebody who's really happy with the Affordable Care Act, meet Colorado's Medicaid director, Sue Birch. Colorado has been enrolling just under 1,000 people a week in new private health insurance since its Obamacare marketplace opened. But the number enrolling in Medicaid is 10 times that.

Wisconsin Assembly approves mental health Medicaid expansion bill

The Wisconsin Assembly has approved a bill that will OK Medicaid coverage expansion for mental health treatment. The bill came out of recommendations from a mental health task force. Although the Assembly passed the proposal, it must next go to the state Senate.
