Medicaid managed care switch smooth in New Hampshire
Concord Monitor
New Hampshire health officials said they are pleased so far with the state’s transition to a managed care system for its Medicaid program. Since the program launched Dec. 1, the number of calls to the three contracted health plans have been what officials expected, and problems that have come up have been resolved quickly. One trouble spot has involved pharmacy claims, because pharmacies need to know which plan the customer has selected in order to fill a prescription.
Iowa's GOP governor expands Medicaid program
The Washington Post
The White House welcomed the news that Iowa's Republican Gov. Terry Branstad agreed to expand his state's Medicaid program under the administration's healthcare law. Under a compromise with the Department of Health and Human Services, the state will be allowed to charge premiums to people who earn between 100 percent and 133 percent of the federal poverty line to pay a modest premium for health coverage.
Utah may substitute private insurance for Medicaid expansion
The Salt Lake Tribune

A Legislative Health Reform Task Force revisited, tweaked and approved three expansion scenarios for recommendation to the full legislature. Still on the table: Doing nothing and keeping Medicaid eligibility rules as they are now. But in a surprise twist, lawmakers ditched previously favored partial expansion strategies in favor of giving low-income Utahns public dollars to buy private insurance.

McDonnell wants review of any Medicaid expansion
Richmond Times-Dispatch
Even if Virginia decides to expand its Medicaid program, Gov. Bob McDonnell wants a second look in two years before the state would start paying part of the bill. McDonnell proposed to put a sunset clause on any expansion of the program by the Medicaid Innovation and Reform Commission, created this year to oversee reforms that lawmakers insist be accomplished before — or, some say, at the same time as — expanding the program under the federal Affordable Care Act.
