The event was hosted by Rollins Creative, LLC and co-sponsored by San Diego State University Imperial Valley in Dr. Alfaro's hometown of Calexico, CA on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020.
Dr. Alfaro was the first in her family to attend college and said that she went to college to learn how to help people.
Speaking to the theme of the conference, Finding Creativity, Inspiration and Motivation During the Pandemic, Alfaro said "There were many lessons to learn about ourselves in the pandemic. We have to take care of our health, enjoy our family, and our little victories."

Schatz, Murkowski demand Census Bureau comply with court ruling, continue counting until Oct. 31
Senator Brian Schatz
U.S. Senators Brian Schatz, D-Hawai'i, and Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, urged the Census Bureau to reverse its decision to end the self-response period and field data collection for the 2020 Census on Oct. 5 and instead allow operations to continue until Oct. 31. This bipartisan effort follows the Census Bureau's decision to ignore a recent federal court ruling, which found that ending the counting operations early would result in a serious undercount.

NABE's 2020 Annual Organization and Strategic Planning Meeting

The NABE Executive Board held its annual organization and strategic planning meeting on July 3 via Virtual Zoom due to the COVID -19 Pandemic.
Following the oath of office for the newly elected board members: Dr. Margarita Machado-Casas - Western Region Representative; Dr. Sonia Soltero - Central Region Representative; Dr. Miriam Ebsworth - Eastern Region Representative; and Dr. Myrna Rasmussen – Central Region Representative (appointed to complete an unfinished term).

BORDER 2020 Conference
RE:BORDER 2020 is the second annual conference that explores key regional issues and innovative solutions. This year, we will focus on challenges and solutions related to Mobility in the transborder region of California and Baja California. Academic experts, practitioners, students, public policy experts, and community stakeholders will explore how San Diego State University and its regional partners can contribute to innovative solutions in the transborder region through expert presentations, conversations, poster sessions, and artistic experiences.
