NAMIC named five cable operators and five programmers as its 2015 Top Companies for People of Color, the diversity organization said Monday. The list, compiled by NAMIC and global talent consultant Mercer and funded by The Walter Kaitz Foundation, featured five operators — Bright House Networks, Comcast Corp., Cox Communications, Midcontinent Communications and Time Warner Cable — and five programmers, including BETNetworks, Discovery Communications, Disney ABC Television Group, NBCUniversal and Turner.

NAMIC has launched its call for nominations for the 2016 Next Generation Leader Awards, honoring emerging executives of color for their outstanding contributions to the success of their respective organizations. Business leaders age 45 and under are eligible for nomination. Awards are presented in four categories: Cable MSO, Cable Programmer, Technology Company/Disciplines and Creative Disciplines.
The nominations deadline for this year's Next Generation Leader Awards, presented in partnership with Multichannel News, is Feb. 15. Nominations may be submitted electronically by accessing the online submissions page here.

The Writers Guild of America West's top elected officer has called on Hollywood to increase the numbers of women and minorities writing scripts to address the industry's diversity problem. WGA West President Howard A. Rodman issued comments in the wake of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' steps to double the numbers of minorities in the Academy by 2020. The diversity issue has been at the forefront of Hollywood since the Jan. 14 announcement of Oscar nominations, which didn't include any nonwhite actors.
