Deanna Beaver 2014 NCEA Gerson Award
NCEA
The National Coalition of Estheticians, Manufacturers/Distributors & Associations is pleased to announce that two teachers, Deanna Beaver and Heidi Phillips, were honored this year for the Gerson Award for Excellence in Esthetic
Education.
Deanna Beaver, co-recipient of the third NCEA Joel Gerson Excellence in Esthetics Education award, is the Advanced Esthetics Instructor at New York Institute of Beauty in Islandia, New York. For 10 years, Beaver has been dedicated to raising the standards of the esthetics profession. Throughout her career, she has written for Dermascope and presented at The International Congress of Esthetics and Spa Conference and Career Educators Alliance convention. She has generously volunteered her time in the past year to create New York Institute of Beauty's Elite Skin Care Professionals, a networking group for estheticians that helps raise awareness on regulatory changes within the industry. Beaver wrote and implemented a curriculum approved by NYS Department of Education and NACCAS to offer advanced education for licensed skin care professionals. This past year, Beaver participated in the Milady Advisory Committee providing her expertise to help them formulate the best product for future estheticians. She also was a reviewer on several chapters for the Milady Standard Esthetics: Advanced textbook. Beaver is pursuing her own dreams of becoming a registered nurse, where she hopes to combine her passion for esthetics with her medical background. “Deanna Beaver is one of those people whose skill and dedication motivate those around her, raising the quality of teaching and learning in everyone she touches."

Massage as medicine

10 surprising stress busters
Yahoo Health
Gaining control over external stressors starts with two things: accepting that they'll always be there and being confident that you can manage stressful feelings using an arsenal of mental and physical strategies. Let's start with some effective techniques for living effectively with chaos.
"Being an NCEA Certified Esthetician, Educator and professional has had a profound change in my life for the better. It is just as important to estheticians for advanced training purposes, support from an association, as well as keeping members involved of changes in the industry and state regulations about the careers we all love. Being the best has only been enhanced from this training and membership. You cannot get the same or even similar benefits from other organizations. This is based on United States Standards, and job skills that are necessary in today's workplace for esthetic professionals. I would want everyone I have ever taught, worked with and trained in the skin care industry to become part of this elite organization, to better themselves and the profession overall."

Start educating, stop training
The Staffing Stream
How people learn and how they are taught are often not in sync. This shows up as inconsistencies in execution, untapped market potential and the need to get "back to basics." Simply put, if staff consistently did what they are supposed to do in the manner in which they are supposed to do it, execution would improve and results would grow exponentially.
