The CUT
Beauty editor Kathleen Hou writes: I first learned about pores in the sixth grade when a girl in my group of friends, snarking on another girl in our math class, said, "Michelle's pores are huge." "What are pores? How can you tell hers are huge?" I innocently asked. And thus, I had tasted the apple of beauty complexes. Many years later, as a beauty editor, pores make up a big portion of my job. I can't get away from them. And so I know that products that promise to reduce the size of your pores are lying. Here's why.

Beauty and health editor Molly Shea writes: I was sitting in a car a few weeks ago, snaking through New York City, squinting at a screen in front of me to read more about an eye product from StriVectin. The eye concentrate, the description said, would help fight the wrinkles that come from screen fatigue, caused by squinting as you stare at your phone or computer — or, in my case, a TV mounted to the back of a car seat. I'd always been vaguely aware that all that screen time might be wreaking havoc on my looks, but this was the first time I'd seen the beauty repercussions from staring at my phone laid out so clearly. It was a little terrifying.

Wound healing is an incredibly complex biological process that often results in thickened collagen-enriched healed tissue called scar. Cutaneous scars lack many functional structures of the skin. The absence of these structures contributes to a number of the long-term morbidities of wound healing. Scar formation is a pervasive factor in our daily lives; however, in the case of serious traumatic injury, scars can create long-lasting complications due to contraction and poor tissue remodeling.

Think about our planet for a second. Earth has an elliptical oval-shaped orbit. That means we're closer to the sun for one part of the year and farther away another part of the year. Does that fact explain why it's hotter in the summer and colder in the winter? Lots of kids think it does. Lots of adults think so, too. And they're wrong.

Faculty Focus
There are three basic ways that I hear faculty talk about difficult dialogues — in-class dialogues that were planned but did not go particularly well; in-class hot moments that were not anticipated and that the faculty member did not feel equipped to handle; and difficult dialogues that happen during office hours or outside of class. In all three instances, faculty are challenged to use skills they may not have learned at any point in their disciplinary training. That lack of skill can actually cause them great angst, and in the most extreme situations, cause them to avoid addressing important issues directly.
