Hotel News Now
With the much needed rise in the prioritization of self-care, and with less and less millennials drinking as a way to unwind and relax, we are seeing a positive and healthy shift in the design and functionality of wellness spaces.
Once reserved purely for rest and relaxation in total isolation, the modern wellness environment, especially in urban settings, is undergoing rapid transformation. Spas and boutique fitness studios are morphing into community-driven spaces that support both self-care and socialization in powerful ways. Of course, the bar and lounge will always be a prominent fixture, however these ancillary spaces, which are committed to prioritizing wellness, are becoming an increasing driver of traffic and attention that should not be ignored by any industry, hospitality and beyond.

When it comes to common beauty industry parlance, words like "luminous", "radiant", "glowing", "dewy" and "glossy" are the dominant buzzwords du jour. These key terms have replaced traditional ones like "anti-aging" and speak more directly to millennial markets with their affirming, rather than corrective language. This age of luminosity has crowned new beauty icons, companies and products.
Glossier, Milk Makeup and Fenty Beauty have become industry titans precisely because they design with that "glow" in mind. The faces of the Kardashians, Rihanna, the Hadids and Ariana Grande beam through our social media feeds, setting new beauty standards that require shining both online and in real life.

Airports are not places that are generally associated with wellness. Between long security lines, hard-backed chairs, and incessant announcements, many of the world's busiest airports seem like they were actually designed with traveler discomfort in mind. These transit hubs don't have to be so anxiety-inducing, though.

"Beauty wasn't the initial idea, it was family," says Xavier Desforges de Caulières, the 36-year-old founder of Maison Caulières—one of the most successful, under-the-radar independent beauty brands out of France. In four years, his body care line has earned a prominent home within Rosewood luxury hotel properties around the world, from the spa at Paris' Hôtel de Crillon to the 413 rooms at the group's new flagship in Hong Kong. That's all in addition to its loyal VIP following, which included Queen Elizabeth II shortly after the brand launched. But if personalities like actor Marion Cotillard and fashion designer Isabel Marant won't travel without their Maison Caulières hand cream today, it's for more than its skin nourishing properties. It's also for the ancestral know-how, transparency in production, and a compelling story — intangible elements that can catapult a small brand to stardom.

Millennials are the largest generation in the workforce, and, according to a recent report, they’re also the hardest group to engage. A new Speakap study, "Technology’s Role in Managing and Retaining Employees," reveals that millennials present a unique challenge to human resources. Relationship marketing marks the re-emergence of human friendliness in our sometimes-cold, digital world. As it turns out, robots are not the ones buying products and services from us … it’s still people!
So, although technology in the digital marketing space allows for scaling (maybe to unprecedented heights), it also makes us prone to forget that we’re dealing with people instead of just numbers on a screen.
