NCEA Gerson Award for esthetic teachers
Deadline for submission: Sept. 30

In honor of Mr. Gerson's contribution to education of the esthetic professional, NCEA is pleased to announce the creation of the "Gerson Award."

General information: Applicants must be currently employed as an Esthetics Teacher and demonstrate excellence in providing esthetic education. All applications must be received no later than Sept. 30t. Applications received after this date will be disqualified as well as incomplete applications.

Spa industry sees slight decline in 2Q

After seeing a decrease in the first quarter of 2014, the Professional Beauty Association's Salon/Spa Performance Index continued to decline slightly by 0.2 percent in the second quarter 2014; its lowest level since 2012. This decrease is due in large part to a dip in expectations indicators, including a less positive outlook on the overall economy and less capital spending.

Many faculty now have students do some graded work in groups. The task may be, for example, preparation of a paper or report, collection and analysis of data, a presentation supported with visuals or creation of a website. Faculty make these assignments with high expectations. They want the groups to produce quality work — better than what the students could do individually — and they want the students to learn how to work productively with others.
