So, take time to pause and enjoy the things that fall and winter bring and a chance to rejuvenate.

Achieving a youthful, dewy, complexion doesn't come from using the best moisturizers. Rushing into injectable treatments can be risky and expensive. And relying on the sales personnel at the beauty counter will most likely get you nowhere. The most crucial step is to know your own skin type first. How, you ask? Knowing your skin type is as easy as learning to identify your power fruit — not the fruit you eat, mind you, but the fruit your skin most closely resembles.

Dry skin is an inevitable part of aging. "Clinical studies have shown that the level of the skin's Natural Moisturizing Factor drops with age, leading to dry, flaky skin and a compromised barrier," says Peter Konish, senior director of innovation and product development at skin care provider NeoStrata. And as scientists have learned more about the true nature of the stratum corneum, it has become increasingly clear that proper hydration is essential for maintaining the skin barrier. Just as the body cannot survive without water, the skin cannot function efficiently without adequate hydration.

Say you're a high performer who's risen through the ranks. Now you have even bigger responsibilities. Or you're working your way toward a promotion and need to show your skills and professionalism in the best light. Then the phone call comes. The results of your medical tests weren't good. Or you suddenly have to take care of a loved one in an emergency. Or there's an unexpected financial hit that could spell catastrophe.
Whatever the situation, your life just got much more complicated. While intuitively you know that these things can happen to anyone, the anxiety of dealing with such troubling events, coupled with the pressure to continue to perform in your job, amps up the stress to DEFCON 1.

Companies and organizations have, understandably, rediscovered the merits of face-to-face meetings. The benefits range from the ability to build and enhance important business relationships, to serving as a great forum for providing leadership and direction. But there is another highly important incremental benefit to meeting in-person: the ability to gauge and interpret the nonverbal cues of attendees.

There's no use in denying it — marketing is a critical component of a small business' success. The challenge is that so many small-business owners have no idea what it takes to make marketing work for them. They are experts in their business, but they simply don't have the time to become experts in the ever changing world of online marketing.

With so many cheap and easy digital tools have you ever thought traditional communications are effectively ... dead? That your traditional communication tools — and your traditional knowledge — are of fast-diminishing value? One only needs to look at the sorry plight of the newspaper business to see the future doesn't look rosy. The world has changed. Or have we so bought into the inevitability of technology that it has blinded us to what we have given up?

The most recent issue of Peer Review (Winter/Spring 2016; published by AACU) highlights the powerful impact "transparency" can have on learning for all students. One aspect of transparency is making obvious the intellectual practices involved in completing and evaluating a learning task. But making these processes visible for students is more easily said than done; we are experts in our fields for the very reasons that our thinking and evaluating are automatic and subconscious. It's hard to describe exactly what we do intellectually when we synthesize or integrate, critique or create. Similarly, it's difficult to articulate the differences between an assignment we score as an A and one to which we give a B.

Rachelle Dene Poth writes: "In my last post, Finding Out What Students Are Thinking: 10 Tools To Get Them Talking, I shared tools that can help promote student communication.
The additional benefit for using tools like these is that you can take what you hear and learn and the next day in class anonymously share some ideas to get the discussion going. Even if you try to keep things anonymous, you will have the students who immediately fess up and say "yeah that's mine," because that's just what the students do, which is okay because they are willingly sharing what they said."
