Donnie Straight wanted to get into the field of massage therapy to give people an alternative method of pain relief.
He wanted to help fight the opioid epidemic currently taking lives throughout West Virginia.
"I wanted to do it to help fight the opiate situation we have, because doctors are supposed to start prescribing massage as opposed to opiates,?" Straight, a massage therapist and owner of Appalachian Massage Therapy, said.
Straight said the health benefits of a good massage can be greater than the benefits of prescribed opiates, which is why some other states already prescribe this method of treatment rather than pills.

Rather than filling stockings or wrapping packages, many holiday shoppers plan to purchase less tangible gifts this year, reports The NPD Group, a global information company.

Thirty-nine percent of U.S. consumers plan to purchase experiential gifts this holiday season, like wine tastings, concert tickets and spa treatments.

President of the University of California, C. L. Max Nikias writes: "I learned this lesson the hard way, as a freshman at the National Technical University of Athens, staying up for most of the night to prepare for a math final. Despite it being my strongest subject, the lack of sleep caught up to me, and I failed the exam.
Thankfully, university policy at the time allowed me to retake the final and I managed to salvage my grade. But what I learned about sleep that day ensured that my first exam failure would also be my last. And it is a lesson I have carried through to my professional life: no amount of preparation can fully replace the benefit of sleep. Yet conventional wisdom often pulls leaders in the opposite direction."

Coaching is the process of helping someone master a skill or the correct application of knowledge. Teaching focuses on learning something new; coaching focuses on mastering that something. The ideal coach is a thinking partner to the person being coached. The coach asks questions to lead the person being coached through the process of self-assessment, not offering any advice, observations or opinions until after the person being coached has self-assessed.
