From May 23: Somewhere in the world, a HydraFacial is performed every 15 seconds. Don't even try to do the math: This essentially amounts to 2 million treatments given globally last year alone. That's more than the total number of Botox injections administered in the U.S. in 2017.
This is a facial, people. A FACIAL. Aiming to further expand its mega following, the company just kicked off a summer tour of sorts.

From March 27: If you own a skin care business like a spa, medical spa or salon, then you know skin care product retail sales are an important and lucrative revenue stream. So how would you feel if you found out that people who are not trained in skin health are selling millions of dollars of skin care products to your clients behind your back? The beauty industry is rife with fake beauty "experts" who are thriving because of the popularity of the industry and the pervasiveness of social media.

7x7
From June 6: Jen Woo writes: "What would you do for healthy, glowing skin?
For me, all it took was 19 needles in my face, six in my scalp, and seven in and behind each of my ears to get skin that looked like the inside of a ripe peach.
Despite having Asian skin, my millennial eyes are beginning to detect a slight deflation in the youthful bounce that I thought would forever be mine. So when I was invited for an acupuncture facial — which touts itself as a holistic alternative to injectable fillers and Botox — with Anna Lee at International Orange's Fillmore Street spa, I jumped at the chance to do a bit of dermal time travel."

From Oct. 2: The buzziest diet in South Korea at the moment has nothing to do with cutting back on gluten, sugar, or dairy. In fact, food isn't even involved. Instead, the "Skin-Care Diet" is basically the anti-10-step routine. It forgoes the hallmark of K-beauty by focusing on a streamlined skin care regimen consisting of just two or three steps.
Over the past six months, several people from both Seoul and New York City have mentioned the K-beauty trend to me, so I felt inclined to do a deep dive on the Skin-Care Diet — even though the thought of any diet makes me cringe.

From May 9: Hospitality has always been a business based on caring for people, but that sense of caring has taken on new meaning as the industry becomes increasingly entwined with health and well-being. The global wellness economy, which includes sectors such as wellness tourism, spas, healthy eating, fitness and beauty, was worth $3.7 trillion in 2015, according to the Global Wellness Institute. Meanwhile, wellness tourism revenues grew by 14 percent worldwide from 2013 to 2015 — more than twice as fast as overall tourism spending.

From April 10: When we work out, it's all about the abs, glutes and biceps. But a new gym is targeting an often-ignored set of muscles: the ones behind your smile. Called (what else?) FaceGym, it melds beauty, spa, and, well, face-muscle fitness.
"The muscles on your body and the muscles in your face are exactly the same — you have the same physiology," explains founder Inge Theron. "So why wouldn't you work out those 40 muscles in the face?"

From April 25: Cannabis is having a skin care moment.
Beauty and wellness products containing cannabidiol (CBD), and possibly tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), are becoming increasingly popular.
CBD, along with THC, are the two most common cannabinoids found in cannabis (a.k.a. marijuana), but they have different effects. CBD is touted as having therapeutic and stress-relieving benefits, while THC is responsible for the "high" associated with marijuana use. Additionally, CBD is legal in many states, while THC is not.

Brit Co.
From May 23: Most of us might shudder at the thought of sticking your face with hundreds of needles — it sounds like something out of a slasher movie. But in the pursuit of flawless skin, editors and influencers are quick to make an exception, as microneedling (AKA derma rolling) has become a top skin care treatment to stop the early signs of aging, increase radiance, and control oil production. Increasingly, however, the procedure has been used to help treat acne scars and hyperpigmentation.

From Aug. 14: CBD oil's been making a splash on the wellness scene this year. It makes sense — cannabidiol, a nonpsychoactive compound in cannabis, offers a myriad of potential health effects. Research shows that CBD helps ease anxiety, reduces inflammation, and might be an effective treatment for acne, among dozens of other promised benefits. No wonder people think of it as the next wonder drug. Known for offering a mildly relaxing effect, CBD oil’s now turning up at the very places where people go to bliss out: Spas.
