2020 Permit Extension Act: Registration deadline on Oct. 8

In accordance with the Permit Extension Act signed by Gov. Phil Murphy on July 1, the term of certain governmental permits, approvals and deadlines that were due to expire on March 9, 2020, or the specified period following it were extended. Any government approval subject to the automatic suspension of the running period of such approval for the COVID-19 extension period must be registered here with the department by Thursday, Oct. 8.

Murphy signs COVID-hit $32.7 billion budget

The governor approved a record-high state spending plan on Tuesday after it sailed through the Legislature at breakneck speed over the past week.
Under this new budget, New Jersey will spend $32.7 billion on a variety of expenses between Oct. 1, 2020, and June 30, 2021, to keep the lights on.

New Jersey gas tax hike set to begin just weeks after toll increases

New Jersey drivers will have to dig deeper into their pockets to pay for gas starting Thursday.
The state's gas tax will be raised by 9.3 cents per gallon — a roughly 22% increase — from 30.9 cents to 40.2 cents, according to the state Treasury Department. The tax on diesel fuel will increase from 34.9 cents to 44.2 cents.

Small business jobs index increases slightly driven by gains in the northeast and the construction industry

The latest Paychex | IHS Markit Small Business Employment Watch shows a slight increase in hiring from the previous month, rising 0.06% nationally and 0.36% in the Northeast. The national jobs index stands at 94.44, remaining in line with April's reading of 94.63. Small business wage growth slowed to 3.14% in September, while growth in weekly hours worked maintained a solid pace, up 0.65% from last year. Weekly earnings growth held steady at 3.86% in September.

Phillipsburg Logistics Center near I-78, Route 22 expected to be ready to lease by summer 2021

A 511,200-square-foot industrial building in Lopatcong Township is expected to be available for lease by summer 2021, the developers said in a news release.
The Phillipsburg Logistics Center, 39-41 Strykers Road, was approved for construction this past December by the Lopatcong Township Planning Board. The developer, J.G. Petrucci Company, Inc., in announcing a partnership with PGIM Real Estate, ssaid they expect to have the property available for lease by summer 2021. The 66-acre property is located within a few miles off Route 22 and Interstate 18 and across from a solar farm between Routes 57 and 519.

Traffic is increasing, but Port Authority app drivers rely on was out for 10 days

Drivers faced a 30-minute wait at the Lincoln Tunnel Tuesday morning, but what was more unusual was that the Port Authority's award-winning smart phone app — which gives drivers real-time travel times — wasn't working. It had been off-line for 10 days.
The Crossing Time app, which tells drivers how long it will take to travel the Port Authority of New and New Jersey's six river crossings, was dark for more than a week, instead telling drivers "Crossing Time status is unavailable, please try again later."

HVAC manufacturing site plan approved in Marlboro

An application calling for the construction of a 63,161-square-foot warehouse complex at 156 Boundary Road was approved by the planning board during a Sept. 16 meeting. The facility is slated to produce air conditioning (HVAC) systems. The application, which was filed by SRS Enterprises, was approved following a public hearing for the preliminary and final major site plan. The plan includes the construction of the two-story 29,998-square-foot building for manufacturing use in phase 1 and a future 33,133 square-foot addition in phase 2, according to meeting documents.
