With all the talk about another Manhattan bound tunnel, we have Prakash Donde (Mr. Tunnel) giving us the intro to how it is done. Mike Ernst will be up next with a new ethics course again preparing for the Milton F. Lunch ethics contest. He promises to keep it lively, no fist fights please, Kerry has an excellent safety record. Last is our host Gerry Ferrara with a talk concentrating on confined space and hot work followed by a tour of the renovations in progress. Please wear sensible shoes, steel toes preferred. Bring your safety glasses and hard hats if you have them, some can be supplied if you don't.

A new report finds infrastructure in the Garden State is in very poor shape, and it will take billions of dollars to make things better.
The American Society of Engineers report gives New Jersey a grade of D+, the same as the entire country.
"It means the infrastructure is near failing; it means it doesn't have the capacity. So, if you look at roads, you have high congestion," said Greg DiLoreto, past president of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and current chair of ASCE's Committee for America's Infrastructure.

A year can make a big difference. A bitter political impasse brought state-funded transportation projects to a halt last year, but Gov. Chris Christie and lawmakers are now working together to rush out new spending on road, bridge, and rail projects.
A bipartisan bill approved by the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee proposes $400 million in supplemental spending on state infrastructure projects before the current fiscal year closes at the end of June.

The PennEast pipeline project has one less partner; PSEG Power LLC announced yesterday that it is selling its 10 percent minority share to Spectra Energy Partners, LP, which is doubling its investment in the proposal.
The news comes less than a week after the Newark company, a subsidiary of Public Service Enterprise Group, disclosed it was looking to sell its share in the 118-mile pipeline that begins in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, and ends near Trenton.

New Jersey American Water (NJAW) will be providing $3.5 million for new water mains in Ocean Township as well as Neptune Township and Asbury Park.
Some of the water mains are as old as the 1920s and will be replaced with 23,000 feet of new, ductile iron pipes. NJAW is the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, which aims to provide reliable and high-quality water to over 2.7 million people.

PSEG Power is exploring the sale of its share of the PennEast pipeline, a 118-mile project that has stirred widespread opposition in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania and encountered numerous regulatory setbacks.
A spokesman for the Newark company acknowledged the discussions, saying it is considering selling its share — believed to be in excess of $100 million — but said it will continue to be a customer of the pipeline when it is built.

Recently, PSEG President, Chairman and CEO Ralph Izzo told Utility Dive that he envisioned providing "universal access" to energy efficiency programs, expanding the utility's offerings to enable widespread savings and growth.
Fast-forward eights months, and PSEG has presented a plan to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities that would roll out new demand management programs that leverage technology and offer rebates to customers, as well as continuing three other popular programs.

The city will receive $300,000 worth of green infrastructure projects – rain gardens and water storage cisterns – to reduce storm water impact on the antiquated municipal combined sewer system which overflows during downpours and snowmelts discharging raw sewage into the Passaic River.
Sandra Meola, spokeswoman for the New York and New Jersey Baykeeper, said 15 sites have been identified for green projects throughout the city.
