New Jersey voters recently approved a constitutional amendment dedicating gas tax proceeds to transportation projects, locking in more than $1 billion a year in new revenue from the recently enacted 23 cent gas tax.
The referendum passed despite a late revolt against the once-virtually uncontested question that passed the Legislature with just one "no" vote and had the support of Gov. Chris Christie.

Jobs in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) often pay well. Positions in this area are growing, adding to their attraction. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, seven of the 10 largest STEM jobs involve computers. When looking at specific jobs, the highest-paying STEM occupations are petroleum engineers, with an annual mean wage of $147,520; physicists, $117,300; and several management-related jobs, according to the BLS.

If the state is looking to enhance grid reliability during extreme storms, then a pilot project at Hopewell Valley Central High School might provide some clues on how it can be done.
The school district and Public Service Electric & Gas have completed a solar storage project that supplies electricity to the grid while allowing the school to function — at least temporarily — even in the face of widespread outages.

Federal regulators issued a notice saying the decision over the final environmental impact statement (EIS) for the PennEast Pipeline will be delayed so that homeowners affected by recent route changes will have a chance to comment on the project.
The new date for the final EIS — originally Dec. 16, 2016 — has been pushed back to Feb. 17, 2017.

Nine water sources at five Cherry Hill public school buildings have been found to exceed government-set lead-level limits, according to information released by school district officials recently.
The water samples were taken from drinkable water fixtures at Bret Harte, James Johnson, Horace Mann, Joseph D. Sharp, and Woodcrest Elementary Schools, said a letter to the community from Superintendent Joseph N. Meloche.
