Watch for the Webinar — PSGP Insider Tips

Coming up in January, the NMLEA will host a webinar that will feature some key speakers who will provide some "Insider tips" on the upcoming 2023 Port Security Grant Program (PSGP), and how Maritime Security can be elevated through the through a program developed by a list of key industry stakeholders – the Maritime Security Accreditation and Digitization Program (while being funded through the PSGP.) Speakers will include Rob LeClair, Vice President of Moran's Office of Maritime and Port Security (serving America's ports for over 75 years) and Mark Dubina, Director of Security Operations from Port Tampa (the first port in the country to become Accredited in the MARSEC ADaPt Program), to name a few. See you at the 10th Annual Maritime Security East Conference

Join us and your colleagues and counterparts from Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, Ports, State/Local Police, U.S./Foreign Governments and Private Industry at the most comprehensive program dedicated to maritime security, the Maritime Security East Conference, January 30th to February 1, 2023 in West Palm Beach Florida. "We've been involved in the program since its inception a decade ago", said NMLEA Executive Director Mark DuPont. He continued with, "We support this program because is designed to not only provide participants with critical knowledge relative to maritime and port security, but to also provide a platform for them to share their knowledge, ideas and challenges with their peers and leaders in maritime security and law enforcement."
The agenda will consist of a series of speakers and panel sessions which will run alongside 5 impactful work groups. These work group sessions will allow all participants to discuss the topics that matter most to them and to provide ideas and feedback either attributed or anonymously to leadership and their peers. The findings from these work groups will be shared with the entire audience in the second half of the last conference day. NMLEA Executive Director will lead some of those sessions and discussion, including one with port operators and authorities titled "Maritime Security Accreditation and Digitization – What place does it have?" Firefighters train with US Coast Guard in Orange Beach

The United States Coast Guard is flying high above Orange Beach Wednesday, training firefighters for medical emergencies and rescues in the Gulf of Mexico. "It's a little bit nerve racking for some because they've never done this type of work before," said Orange Beach Fire Rescue’s Chief of Training, Chance Ard.

USCG receives authorization for new Great Lakes heavy icebreaker

Contained within the massive new National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023 is the start of a program to add a new heavy icebreaker for the U.S. Coast Guard to operate on the Great Lakes. The vessel would increase the Coast Guard's capacity and supplement an aging fleet that plays a vital role in the commercial trade on the Great Lakes.

Cyberattack threatens release of Port of Lisbon Data

The Port of Lisbon, one of Europe's busiest ports is under cyberattack with reporting indicating the criminals are threatening to release confidential port financial information unless their ransom demands are met. The Portuguese newspaper Publico is quoting a statement from the port authority confirming that it was attacked on Christmas Day but saying that it has been able to continue operations.
