Some Defense Department civilians, active-duty Coast Guard members and others are scrambling to find other child care amidst their uncertainty about their children’s future in military child care.
Under a new policy which takes effect June 1, children of DoD civilians, active-duty Coast Guard and others could be bumped from DoD child care if a military family is expected to be on a wait list for 45 days beyond the time the military child needs care. Parents will be given 45-days notice before the child must leave.

The Department of Homeland Security has announced its grant programs for 2020, and among them is the Port Security Grant Program (PSGP). $100 Million will be available, and an overview of the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) can be found by clicking here.
Here are some of the highlights:
- Deadlines: April 8th for initial application, and April 15th, 2020 at 5:00 PM for final application.
- There is a cost share requirement, 25% for public sector, 50% for public sector.
- Cost share requirement is waived for training of law enforcement agencies in security zone enforcement, or for applications totaling $25,000 or less.
- Priority Areas: Enhancing Cybersecurity ; Enhancing the Protection of Soft Targets and Crowded Places; Training and Awareness; Planning; Addressing Emerging Threats, such as Transnational Criminal Organizations, WMD and UAS
- Eligible Applicants: All entities subject to an Area Maritime Security Plan

Scrambling to keep the coronavirus at bay, officials ordered a cruise ship with 3,500 people aboard to stay back from the California coast March 5 until passengers and crew can be tested, after a traveler from its previous voyage died of the disease and at least two others became infected.

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Research and Development Center (RDC) is moving forward with plans to assess low-cost, commercially available autonomous solutions to improve maritime domain awareness in remote regions of the Pacific Ocean. In support of this effort, the recent Coast Guard awarded two contracts worth a total value of nearly $1.8 million for operation and support of unmanned surface vehicles (USV). The USVs will be evaluated later this year to determine the efficacy of using unmanned capabilities to support critical Coast Guard missions to secure and safeguard the maritime domain.

A Coast Guard Air Station Savannah MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew hoisted the man and transported him to Cecil Airport in good condition.
Recently, Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center watchstanders received a call from the spouse of the operator of a 26-foot sailing vessel, stating her husband's vessel was disabled and out of gas near the Northeast Florida Regional Airport on the Intracoastal Waterway and his cell phone had died with no other means of communication on board.
