The city of Pensacola, Florida received official notice from FEMA that the Port of Pensacola has been awarded one of three grants this fiscal year through the Port Security Grant Program for a Maritime Fire Training Simulator. The fire training simulator will be used for port response, incident control and hazard mitigation training by firefighters, law enforcement officers, hazardous materials teams, port response staff and incident command staff.

When they get the call, it's usually a search for a drowning victim or evidence connected to a crime. A Florida Highway Patrol trooper responded to an overturned boat in Tampa Bay, with some help from a man on a personal watercraft. Cpl. Jim Covert was patrolling the Skyway bridge around 4:30 p.m. when he noticed an overturned boat about 200 yards offshore, with three boaters sitting on top. He called for assistance, but no rescue boats were immediately available.
