An unfortunate thing happened on the way to greater diversity on college campuses: As women and minorities enrolled in greater numbers, tuition increases far outpaced wage growth.
While greater diversity didn't lead to the tuition hikes, researchers are pointing to how the two trends are merging in a perfect storm of rising debt and depressed income. Women and minorities are more likely to borrow to pay for their college degrees, yet their lower lifetime pay means many will end up struggling to buy homes and sock away money. They may even have to put off getting married or having children.

Two years ago, LaTeira Haynes was working in a quiet laboratory at UC San Diego finishing up her doctorate in biomedical engineering. Now, she's teaching a 9th-grade biology class in South Los Angeles that is so large she uses a microphone to be heard over the constant din of teenage chatter, rustling worksheets and the zipping and unzipping of backpacks. Here are the keys to creating and sticking to a two-item to-do list.

Being a minority student in college can be challenging. Add campus protests, controversial federal policies and violence against black, brown, Muslim and LGBT students and safety and poor emotional health also become issues families worry about.
While physical safety may be a concern for some students in these groups, being in a university environment that supports them socially and academically is also important.

David G. Jensen writes:
"It's tough to write about ethics. There's always a chance that I'll sound like I'm preaching, which isn't a great style for a columnist. And I've had my own job market infractions, so I’m not squeaky clean. But it's an important topic, so here we go. The bottom line is that there's a good way to handle certain elements of the job search, a bad way — and an ugly, dirty way. Follow the lessons in these examples to keep clean."

Georgene Huang writes:
"I hear from employers all the time that they are looking to hire more women in engineering and STEM. At the same time, I also hear all the time about the dearth of women engineers and the paucity of female engineering students and graduates, as well as the mid-career issue of the “leaky pipeline” of women who do not ultimately remain in the engineering profession."

Sometimes you know a movie won't be very good just from seeing the trailer.
Perhaps the jokes fall flat, maybe the premise involves old people pulling a bank heist, or possibly the stars involved set off immediate warnings in your brain. Whatever the reason, just seeing the trailer lets you know whether it's one you pay to see in theater, a movie to watch at home, or a film you wouldn't see if the premiere was held in your living room. Consider your resume the trailer for your career.
