Ally Financial is sticking with dealer reserve

Ally Financial, one of the largest auto lenders in the United States, will continue dealer reserve in defiance of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Ally CEO Michael Carpenter made the announcement during the annual car dealers convention, telling reporters that the company was not going to "cave." Industry watchers said the company's decision will reverberate through the industry.

Thor Industries warns severe weather hurts fiscal second quarter
The Wall Street Journal
Severe winter weather in many parts of the United States has slowed down its sales and production, says Thor Industries Inc. The company issued a preliminary sales forecast of $636 million for the second fiscal quarter, even though analysts had projected sales of $718 million. Nevertheless, said chief executive and president Bob Martin, "The RV markets remain strong as reflected by the higher traffic and increased sales activity we've seen in the early retail shows."

Cross-country Super Bowl road trip the 'vacation of a lifetime' for Seattle fans

The day after the Seattle Seahawks clinched their place in the Super Bowl by beating San Francisco, Tacoma, WA, resident Lori Patterson started hatching a plan to give her boyfriend the vacation of a lifetime — a cross-country RV road trip to see the team play in the Super Bowl. Sharing laughs and driving duty with friends who accompanied them, the couple said the memories of the trip alone have made it an adventure they'll never forget.

Lazydays RV, Florida State Fair ink sponsorship deal

Lazydays RV has made a significant sponsorship deal with the agency managing the Florida state fairground to place the company's brand name all over the property, all year long, and just in time for this year's state fair. The signs and banners will remain up during dozens of other events, including music festivals, home shows, boat shows, and gun shows. All of those events mix well with the target market for RVs, says Lazyday's new chief marketing officer John Lebbad.

Indiana road renamed for Tom Raper and Raper RVs

The Richmond, IN, town council has voted to name a section of its main thoroughfare, Richmond Pike, as Tom Raper Way in honor of the former Richmond businessman and philanthropist. Council members said the Tom Raper RVs dealership, founded 50 years ago and now owned by David Bane, had put the town on the map.

2013 RV totals up 12.4 percent

As expected, RV shipments were up in December, marking the 24th consecutive month that numbers have been up over the same month the previous year. But totals for the year exceeded expectations. Recreational vehicle wholesale shipments reached 321,127 units for 2013, a gain of 12.4 percent over the previous year.

How EverGreen RV rose from the ashes of the Great Recession

In 2008, RV manufacturer Pilgrim International had been planning a new model that would be marketed as more environmentally friendly. But the Great Recession forced Pilgrim, like many others in the area, to close its doors. Now, more than five years later, its successor — EverGreen RV — is the fastest-growing RV maker among the 15 largest companies in the industry. From January through November, the most recent data available, the company saw the number of RVs it sold grow 82.5 percent compared to the year prior, and its market share rose 58 percent, a Statistical Surveys spokesman confirmed.

Lazydays' new CEO seeks to shift RV dealership into high gear

Tim Sheehan spent 28 years focused on TVs, computers and electronics as a salesman and executive for Best Buy. Last year, he became CEO at Lazydays. During his first eight months, the company revamped its website, replaced the phone system at its 126-acre campus in Seffner and opened a call center. Up next? Plans to add locations up north to expand Lazydays' reach and boost revenue, now at about $500 million a year.

New tax rules that may affect your 2013 return
