Report: REI chief executive Sally Jewell to head Interior Department
The Washington Post
Recreational Equipment Inc. chief executive Sally Jewell will be nominated to head the U.S. Department of Interior. Jewell — who will have to be confirmed by the Senate — has earned national recognition for her management skills and support for outdoor recreation and habitat conservation. In 2011, Jewell spoke at the White House conference on "America's Great Outdoor Initiative," noting that the $289 billion outdoor recreation industry supports 6.5 million jobs. Some key outdoor recreation leaders say the appointment appears to be "good news" because of Jewell's private sector experience and support for tourism on public lands.

Jacksonville, FL, RV dealers say positive feedback from the Florida RV SuperShow in Tampa, coupled with strong RV sales locally in the last quarter of 2012, are pointing toward a strong showing at the upcoming Jacksonville RV MegaShow. Shows offer inspiration to would-be RVers
The Detroit News
Doreen Thomas, a 75-year-old retired chemist, decided years ago that she wanted to travel with her pet Yorkies. "I hate motels," she says, "so I got an RV." That was a few years ago; now she’s president of RVing Women, a national association that offers resources and activities for female RVers. Members range in age from the 30s through the 70s and use their RVs for many different purposes. At first, "they think they can't handle the rigs — but we show them they can," says Thomas. She and others conduct how-to workshops. 2013 national events include RV driving school in Oklahoma, a maintenance seminar in Oregon and a rally in Sacramento, CA.

Do you know what your business is worth? You should
The New York Times
With the day-to-day demands of running their businesses, most owners put off getting a valuation until a sale is imminent. But some are starting to treat the act of valuing their business as an integral part of running it. "Everyone likes to think they're building something they can sell someday, but unless you measure it, you don't know if you really are," says Chris Myers, the 27-year-old chief executive of BodeTree, a start-up that created a cloud-based computer program that synchronizes with a company's accounting software to give owners constant, real-time estimates.
