Many boomers rolling into retirement in RVs
The Daily Legal News
RV sales have spiked in recent years, thanks in part to an improving economy and more baby boomers retiring. Boomers are drawn to RVs because, in general, they've always been drawn to travel. In fact, they're America's most traveled generation, according to the AARP Public Policy Institute. "When they were younger, baby boomers traveled more than older people and now that they're older, they travel more than younger people," according to a recent report from the institute.

Sequestration's effects on National Park Service
National Parks Traveler
Closed campgrounds, Sunday closures of National Park System units, and 900 permanent positions that will go unfilled are just some of the latest details of how the National Park Service is responding to the ongoing federal budget sequestration. NPS, which has a budget of nearly $3 billion, faces mandated cuts of less than 4 percent, or about $115 million, because a portion of its budgets are exempt from sequestration, according to Derrick Crandall of the American Recreation Coalition.

South Dakota senator objects to National Park campground closure
The Mitchell Daily Republic
Sen. John Thune, R-SD, sent a letter to National Park Service Director Jonathan Jarvis questioning whether the NPS is "playing politics" in deciding to close Wind Cave National Park's 64-site Elk Mountain Campground. The NPS decision to close the campground came following the implementation of sequestration and according to the senator, appears to substantiate reports that the NPS is intentionally trying to make the cuts more visible to the public.

RV sales start to rebound after rough economic road
Lacrosse Tribune
Wisconsin RV dealers are hoping for a fourth consecutive year of sales growth. Pettibone RV, an RVDA member, has added new motorhomes to its product line in the past few years "because they've started to come back," says co-owner Paul Pretasky. The dealership's sales peak from February through June and most people want to have their new RV in time for Memorial Day weekend camping, he says.

From the parents down to the youngest kid, the Hill family is crazy about lacrosse. That devotion includes a yearly trip to Palm Springs for a week-long tournament. Two adults, four kids, two dogs and all the gear they can fit go into an RV for long days filled with the sport. "They go off to their games, come back and cool down. There's room to rest and get homework done. It's actually very productive," says dad Craig Hill.

Yankees coach: His time on the mound doesn't compare with watching from the stands
The New York Times
Yankees bullpen coach Mike Harkey says some of his favorite moments come as a spectator in the stands — specifically, when he's watching son Cory, a rookie tight end for the Rams. When Cory played at UCLA, Mike watched as many of his games on TV as possible until the Yankees' season ended. Then he would head home to Chino Hills, CA, and rent an RV on weekends to follow Cory's football team.

Fans gear up for race week
Highlands Today
Dozens of RVs were waiting for the gates at Sebring International Raceway to open to spectators. Two RVing friends and long-time race attendees — Mark Raczynski and Tim Nelson — say they come more for the camaraderie than the race itself. Nelson says the trip is "cheaper than therapy — therapy is $160 an hour. Therapy here is $160 a week." This is his 25th race here, he noted. That's a lot of therapy.
