Proposals aim at raising money for national parks
National Parks Traveler
The National Parks Conservation Association and National Park Hospitality Association sponsored a seminar in Washington, D.C., to discuss ways of generating money for the country's national parks. Among the proposed ideas were increased visitor fees, a one-cent hike to the federal gas tax, more concessionaires and a parks endowment. Attendees included Sen. Mark Udall, D-CO, former Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne and former EPA administrator Christine Todd Whitman.

Senate committee schedules March 21 vote for Interior nominee
The Hill
The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will decide whether to confirm Interior secretary nominee Sally Jewell on March 21, the committee has announced. Jewell, chief executive of outdoor giant REI Inc., met little committee resistance during a hearing earlier this month. A conservationist who also is a former banker and Mobil Oil Corp. engineer, she has support across the political spectrum. Still, some Republicans could hold up the process if Jewell's nomination clears the committee and proceeds to the full Senate.

Gender identity in the workplace — Free RV Learning Center webinar
The RV Learning Center
State and local governments are starting to ban workplace discrimination based on gender identity or expression. A federal court ruled recently that protections already in place for sex and gender might also extend to transgender individuals. Likewise, the EEOC recently ruled that Title VII protects transgender individuals. These developments signal a sea change that will likely affect employment law in areas such as hiring, discipline and firing decisions, personnel policies, facility access and accommodation, training and benefits. The RV Learning Center and RVDA associate KPA are sponsoring a free webinar March 21 on these recent developments, including best practices for confronting such issues in one's organization. The event starts at noon EST.

RVing with pets allows the 'gypsy' lifestyle
By Laura Weaver
Laura Weaver often accuses her husband of buying their motorhome for the "other woman" in his life — an 8-pound Maltese-Shih Tzu mix named Gypsy. RVing is a wonderful travel option for pets — they typically adjust well to the routine of traveling. They appreciate the relaxed pace. They are comfortable because all of their needs are met. Most importantly, traveling in an RV allows pets the opportunity to be with their owners while sharing trips of a lifetime together.

Made in America: RVs
The Motley Fool
Thor Industries and Winnebago are worth a look from investors because of their strong prospects; likewise, supplier Patrick Industries is also worthy of consideration. Despite high prices for its products, the RV industry is well positioned for future sales growth with large expected increases in its retirement-age, core customer base. The industry is also trying to reduce its cyclical nature by offering lower-priced products that appeal to younger, seasonal users.

Joe Maddon's wife RVs across the country
MLB
Major League Baseball manager Joe Maddon and his wife Jaye have two beloved dogs: Winston, an English bulldog with asthma, and Athena, a Great Dane with, well, tremendous size. The couple worried during the offseason about how to transport their pets from California to the Tampa Bay area for the 2013 season. Air travel was out due to the health and size issues. "So I figured, 'Why not drive them across the country in a little RV?'" says Jaye Maddon. The couple ended up buying a 30-foot RV. Jaye, who will make the 3,000-mile cross-country drive, is asking people to donate a penny a mile toward the Pet-Pal Animal Shelter.

It's a final chance to lobby fans, and maybe even an owner or two, to keep the Kings where they belong.

RVs make the great outdoors
The News-Herald
Rick Kessler and his family tent-camped for many years until they outgrew their tent and their stiff backs outgrew sleeping on the ground. For years he'd whine like a hungry dog every time they passed an RV dealership. Finally, his wife uttered those three magic words — "Oh, all right."

Vintage trailers on the California beach
Santa Barbara Independent
Everything from gleaming aluminum Airstreams to tiny Shasta 10-footers resplendent in red, green, salmon and other colors of the rainbow were on display at the annual vintage get-together, which attracted trailer addicts from far and wide. Once the province of the middle-aged or the retired, these events are now luring the young marrieds, too.
