RVDA questions CFPB guidance on dealer-assisted finance
RVDA
RVDA and other motor vehicle dealer groups are questioning the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's new guidance to lenders that they limit dealer markup or replace it with a flat fee per transaction. There is no indication that the bureau has examined how this potential change could affect the cost or availability of credit for consumers. RVDA directors confirmed last week that protecting dealer-assisted financing is one of their top priorities.

Q&A: RVs offer same custom luxury options as houses
Florida Today
To some, the idea of camping means roughing it, but for those traveling in an RV, life on the road can be pretty sweet. As more baby boomers retire, the RV business is booming, says Patrick White, general manager of RVDA member Giant Recreation World in Melbourne, FL. The Central Florida-based company — which was founded in 1976 by CEO Don McNamara — experienced its highest sales in a decade last year.

Interest on most RV loans is tax-deductible as home mortgage interest
RVDA
Dealers, remind your customers that interest on their RV loan is tax-deductible. To qualify, the RV must be used as security for the loan; have sleeping, cooking and toilet facilities; and be rented out less than 15 days per year. Interest expense deductions on the RV must exceed the taxpayer's standard deduction. Nearly all RV types — motorhomes, travel trailers, truck campers and many folding camping trailers — are equipped with these facilities, so customers can enjoy the benefits of RV travel and get a tax advantage, too.

Today's RVs and travel trailers are not one-size-fits-all
Tri-County Times
RVs have come a long way from the towalongs of the early to mid-20th century. Before motorized RVs hit the road, pulling a trailer behind your car or truck — loaded with food, sleeping and cooking gear — was the best way to get your family out into nature for a long weekend. Things have changed since then. As new innovations continue to develop, don't be surprised to discover solar-powered RVs and RVs that feature jacuzzis.

How to get ready for an IRS audit
Bloomberg Businessweek
The self-employed are much more likely to be asked to document their returns, says Jackie Perlman, principal tax analyst at the Tax Institute, the research and analysis division of tax prep company H&R Block.
