March RV shipments increase over last year
The Elkhart Truth
Wholesale RV shipments were up 16.4 percent in March over the same month last year — the highest March level since 2007, according to the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association. The 33,678 units shipped brought the first-quarter year-to-date total to 89,971, up 13.3 percent from last year's first quarter. March motorhome shipments grew at an even faster pace than total RVs, rising 33.5 percent to 4,120 units. March towables were reported at 29,558, up 14.4 percent over March 2013. Year to date, towables were up 11.2 percent to 78,846 units.

Mayflower RV dealership destroyed by deadly Arkansas tornado
RVDA
RVDA member Mayflower RV, located on U.S. 40 in Mayflower, AR, was completely destroyed by a tornado that killed 16 people and decimated structures and vehicles in its path along Interstate 40 on the night of April 27. According to Arkansas Online, the aftermath showed "RVs tangled into a billboard and thrown into nearby woods, and service bays reduced to piles of mangled rubble." The Red Cross and Salvation Army are directing relief efforts in the area. Donations can be made at RedCross.org/Arkansas and SalvationArmyUSA.org.

Elkhart RV show features factory-fresh vehicles

The phenomenal rebound in the sale of recreational vehicles, especially motorized units, was evident at the 2nd Annual Spring Hall of Fame RV Show. Blake Beard, general manager for Indiana RV Connection of Middlebury, said he scrambled to get Class C motorhomes to the show because his dealership had sold its inventory. The ones on display had been driven out of the Jayco factory in Middlebury directly to the show.

Fans enjoy RV experience at Stagecoach Country Music Festival

The annual Stagecoach Country Music Festival in Indio, CA, offered fans 1,300 RV spaces this year, and they cost as much as $950. Nevertheless, they were sold out. Several people driving RVs stopped to talk before setting up camp and said experiencing the festival in the RV campground is the only way to go. "I heard there's line dancing till 3 a.m.," said Jordan Callanan of Riverside, CA, a first-time festival attendee.

Lewie's RV center to gain new name, new owners in May

A familiar name along Highway 371 is about to change. Lewie's RV Center is expected to finalize a sale to Hilltop Trailer Sales by May 1. Teresa Giese, who owns Lewie's RV with her sister Andria Rivers, says they didn't have a next generation that was interested in the family business. Giese is looking forward to traveling more in her own fifth wheel but says, "I still love this industry. I truly love to sell RVs — you’re selling fun."
