If you hope to get an offstage glimpse of him when he tours your town, don't bother looking in the hotel lobby — he'll be in the band's motorhome. "Rock My RV with Bret Michaels" will air Sunday nights beginning May 26 on Travel Channel.

RV industry's resurgence heralded at 'power breakfast'

The good times are coming back for the recreational vehicle industry. According to speakers at the RV Power Breakfast, while the industry is still far below its prerecession output, growth has occurred in the past two years and is expected to continue through the end of 2013.

RV awnings recalled
PRNewswire
Dometic USA is recalling 27,000 awnings built between Feb. 13 and April 9 of this year that it says may unfurl unexpectedly while the RV is moving or at rest. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is telling owners of the affected awnings not to take their RVs on the road until the units are repaired.

RV parks opening for two weeks of racing in Charlotte, NC

Thousands of race fans from around the world started arriving early at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord for two weeks of racing. Some 5,000 camp spots will be used, says track official Scott Cooper. "The eyes of the world are on the Charlotte region. This is a very exciting time to be here."

While the RV industry remains a cyclical business, sensitive to changes in consumer confidence and discretionary income, there are encouraging signs of post-recession sales growth. And as in the automotive industry, major themes in the RV market include lighter weight, improved aerodynamics and technology. As compact and midsize SUV and crossover models represent a bigger percentage of vehicle sales, the RV industry has responded with lighter-weight travel trailers that can be towed with midsize SUVs and minivans.

IndyCar's Sebastien Bourdais traveled to Indianapolis by motorhome
The Indianapolis Star
Race car driver Sebastien Bourdais tried life in the slow lane as he made his way to the Indianapolis 500. Trading speed for a better view, Bourdais drove his RV from his home in St. Petersburg, FL, to Indianapolis. Along the way, he listened to tunes on his phone, singing along and enjoying the passing scenery. He says he enjoyed the change of pace and will try it again.

Health insurance tax 'scares the daylights' out of some small-business owners

Many small-business owners worry that a new tax on insurance providers will mean higher premiums for them, undermining the law's capacity to lower their health care costs. Starting next year, the federal government will charge a new fee on health insurance firms based on the plans they sell to individuals and companies, known as the fully insured market. But the provision exempts health insurance plans that are set up and operated by businesses themselves.
