RV resurgence buoys Indiana town
CNBC
When you see an RV on the highway or in a campground, there's a good chance it came from this area of north-central Indiana: Almost half of RVs on the road today were made in Elkhart County. When the recession hit and RV sales plunged, unemployment here soared to the highest in the nation — a staggering 20.9 percent in March 2009, when the nationwide unemployment was 8.7 percent. But as the economy recovers, sales have come roaring back, rebounding 72 percent from 2009 to 2012.

RV supplier supplying plenty of jobs
South Bend Tribune
In June, Drew Industries will move from White Plains, NY, to Elkhart, IN, resulting in about six new jobs. But of greater importance to the Michiana area is that its subsidiaries — Lippert Components and Kinro Inc. — are in the process of adding 500 new jobs that will push Drew's total employment in the Elkhart County area to 5,300 by 2016. "Overall, we're just bullish on the industry," says Drew Industries CEO Jason Lippert. While some are wondering if four years of increased RV shipments might stall, he believes the numbers can rise a lot more.

Radio Iowa

Wisconsin campgrounds getting more electric
Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism via The Northwestern
Over the past decade, Devil's Lake State Park ranger Jenny Hudson has seen campers' fondness for electricity grow stronger. Campers in rustic sites tap into unused outlets at electrified sites, charging laptops. Campers leave phones charging in the visitor center and bathrooms. For power-loving campers, the arrival of this year's Memorial Day weekend carried an extra spark of excitement: The largest electrification project for the park system in decades will be completed in early July.
