Newly clarified tax update may be advantageous for dealers
CliftonLarsonAllen
Dealerships that made mandatory image upgrades in recent years (or plan to in the future) may be eligible for tax savings, thanks to recently released IRS regulations. The new ruling allows certain expenditures to be deducted as an expense rather than capitalized as an asset.

Kampgrounds of America sets first national TV campaign
The New York Times
Kampgrounds of America (KOA) hopes to book some of the growing ranks of RV enthusiasts with what it says is a first in its 52-year history: A national television commercial. The spot introduces the slogan "What's Behind the Yellow Sign?" The commercial opens with an RV driving down a tree-lined road on a summer day. Inside, a mother plays a game at a table with her daughter, and a boy sits cross-legged on a sofa beside a golden retriever. "You've driven past it a thousand times, that bright yellow KOA sign," says a voice-over, as the RV passes the campground. "But what if you'd stopped — what unforgettable moments were waiting, where everything is taken care of, freeing you to connect with the people you love in places where distractions just melt away?"

10-year-old boy receives gift of a lifetime — a camper for his family
KCWY News 13
A 10-year-old boy with a rare neurological disease could hardly contain his excitement when he received the gift of a lifetime — a camper trailer that can sleep his entire family. Christian Bayer grinned from ear to ear when Sonny's RVs and the Make-A-Wish Foundation presented him with a bunk house model during a party at the dealership. "He said, 'This is just what I've been waiting for.' It just gives you goose bumps," said Mike Rone of RVDA member Sonny's RVs. "Just seeing his face today made all the work and effort worthwhile." Christian's parents said the RV has given their son something positive to focus on. "I think he's feeling some freedom and some space, he’s feeling like a normal 10-year-old," said Rob Bayer.

RV dealer donates bloodhound to county sheriff
St. Cloud Times
Pleasureland RV Center owner Dan Pearson has come to the assistance of law enforcement again, this time footing the bill for a bloodhound to replace the one that worked for the Stearns County Sheriff's Office until it died unexpectedly late last year. Pearson had heard about Olivia, the bloodhound that helped find a missing little girl, and later read about how the dog had died from a medical condition. Pearson told the sheriff to send him the bill for the replacement dog. "We get to do what we do every day because of law enforcement, firefighters, and the military," says Pearson, an RVDA member. "So when you get an opportunity to give them a tool, that's reinvesting in the community."

Offbeat road trips are on the rise
By Archita Datta Majumdar
During the recession, vacationers had to come up with innovative and inexpensive ways to satisfy their wanderlust. They needed to get away in the most economical way possible. Airfares were one of the first things that were cut as travelers took to the road instead. Soon, the classic road trip had reeled in another generation with its promise of freedom and adventure. Now that Americans have had a taste, they want more. The buzz for 2014 is that offbeat, easy trips are going to be big.

This RV takes the battle against asthma to Northern California
San Jose Mercury News
The 33-foot-long RV, dubbed the Breathmobile, has a cheerful picture on its side of smiling kids in red soccer uniforms, but its mission is deadly serious — to bring asthma treatment to disadvantaged children. The Breathmobile goes to areas that are isolated from medical facilities, seeking to stomp out the most common childhood illness in this country. Last year, the Breathmobile had considerable success. In the schools it visits, the number of class days missed by kids because of asthma fell from 322 to 27. Emergency room visits declined from 120 to six, and hospitalizations fell from 114 to zero.

PCI has launched a new initiative called Passwords 4 Payments, designed to educate small-business owners on the importance of strong passwords – especially those used for point-of-sale devices.
