USA Today    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline is now the lowest it's been since Jan. 23 — $3.43, down another nine cents this week, the 12th straight week of declines. This week also marks the first time gas has slipped below $3.50 a gallon in the Energy Information Administration's survey since February. The decline comes at an unusual time: The summer driving season has just begun, traditionally when gas prices are highest. Prices for regular gas are now 13.7 cents below the same week last year. Dealers should fill out the DSI survey this week, if they have not done so. More

The Detroit News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Advance reservations at state campgrounds are up 23 percent over last year, the second straight year of increases after a long decline, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. State parks are on track this year to break 1 million camp nights, a level the state hasn't experienced since 2005. "In surveys, RV owners say gas prices would have to hit $8 [a gallon] before they would consider skipping their outdoor vacations," says William Sheffer, director of the Michigan Association of Recreation Vehicles and Campgrounds. Campground and RV park revenues expected to climb
PR Web    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
After weak economic conditions and declining travel rates caused demand for campgrounds and RV parks to drop, revenue likely will climb back up during the next five years. The industry will benefit from the aging of the population, particularly of people ages 55 to 75, as they positively influence demand and revenue growth. Furthermore, the depreciation of the U.S. dollar will encourage domestic travel. More

How to attract talent to a small company
The Wall Street Journal    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Big businesses woo job candidates by offering a bevy of benefits, brand-name recognition, and maybe even a Starbucks in the lobby. How can small businesses compete for top talent? First, realize some of the advantages small businesses have over big businesses: They're typically less bureaucratic, have closer relationships between leadership and employees, and offer employees more breadth in their jobs.
