Free webinar: How to develop a dealership safety program
Mike Molino RV Learning Center
Creating a facility safety program isn't easy — there are many state and federal regulations that must be taken into account. During this free webinar, a compliance consultant who once faced the pain of regulation herself as a small-business owner will discuss why dealers need a program and how to develop one. The webinar is sponsored by the RV Learning Center and associate KPA and takes place tomorrow, July 17, at noon EST.

More than twice as many vendors to offer training at this year's RVDA convention
RVDA
More than a dozen Vendor Training +Plus sessions will be offered at the 2014 RV Dealers International Convention/Expo, held Nov. 10-14 in Las Vegas. These extended sessions give dealers the chance to interact directly with the companies whose products and services they use. The Vendor Training +Plus program proved so popular when it debuted last year that more than twice as many companies have already scheduled sessions, including Blue Ox, Carefree, Lippert, and Auction123. Check the convention site often — new companies and details are constantly being added.

Rebound in RV sales portends rising US boats
Bloomberg Businessweek
Some friends of Jack Ablin, chief investment officer at BMO Private Bank, sold their home last month to visit every national park in an RV, while another acquaintance recently bought a boat at a show. Such anecdotal evidence helps make it "less surprising and more encouraging" that sales of RVs and pleasure craft are poised for another year of improvement, says Chicago-based Ablin, who helps manage $66 billion in assets. Americans are determined to hold on to their leisure time, he says, so these purchases offer an important consumer gauge.

Winnebago and Thor industries are producing record sales — time to buy?
The Motley Fool
The RV industry may be the poster boy for cyclicality. During a boom economy in 2005, Winnebago shipped 70,000 units. Flash-forward to 2009, and that figure was down 86 percent to just 10,000. The entire industry collapsed and bottomed out that year. Now, companies such as Winnebago and Thor are recovering on the back of an industry wide rebound that’s expected to be the highest in seven years.

Is there an RV park renaissance?
Keysnews.com
RV sales are up, a local RV developer says business couldn't be better, and county records show another development on the books — could this be part of an RV park renaissance in Florida's Upper Keys? Jim Saunders, developer of one-year-old Point of View RV Resort, says 70 percent of his available lots were occupied last week, and many RVs valued well over $1 million have leased lot space. "You can see the resurgence," he says. "We're hearing about more and more new [RV park] builds all the time."

Vacation savings: To drive or to fly?
The Times of Northwest Indiana
This year, 15 frugality bloggers were invited to take their families on a cross-country road trip in an RV. One family's trip would begin in northern Indiana; from there, they would drive to Salt Lake City, Utah, over an eight-day period. At the end of their trip, they tallied up the cost of taking the motorhome across the country (minus the cost of RV rental fees), and were surprised at the results.

We just left our suburban life to travel in an Airstream trailer
The Washington Post
Recently, Jeff Schrum and his family of four left on a seven-month road trip around the country. On their trip, Schrum’s wife will be visiting her trade organization's members, while Schrum will be road-schooling the kids and writing assignments on the road. Like the traders, trappers and prospectors who roamed the prairies long ago, the Schrums know it's a long, treacherous journey. But they've stocked their covered wagon (an Airstream travel trailer), hitched up the horses (400 of them, according to the truck's brochure), and are headed West.
